Viz Media to Start Publishing Video Games

No, it’s not a Naruto game

You may recognize the name Viz Media. They’re one of the biggest names in the States for the publication of manga and anime. Now they’re looking into publishing video games as well, starting with Rose City Games.

The Portland-based studio is currently developing an adventure RPG called “The World Next Door.” This anime-inspired title follows the story of a teenage girl as she explores a magical world full of mysterious people. We get a small taste of just how anime-meets-vaporwave it is with the game’s key art, as seen above. This will be Rose City Games’ first effort towards game design. Before this, they were best known for their involvement in the marketing of the Homestuck inspired game, Hiveswap.

Viz Media wants to focus on “original, narrative-driven games,” and The World Next Door sounds like a perfect example of this. They have also stated that they’re currently open to inquiries from developers with games at any and all stages of production.

While this is a new territory for the publisher, it’s not a new topic. Viz Media is has published comic book adaptions of various video games like Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda.

The World Next Door currently has no release date, according to Viz Media.
